Effect of Interplanetary Magnetic Field on Hemispheric Asymmetry in Ionospheric Horizontal and Field‐Aligned Currents During Different Seasons

We present a statistical investigation of the effects interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) on hemispheric asymmetry in auroral currents. Nearly 6 years measurements from Swarm A and C satellites are analyzed. Bootstrap resampling is used to remove difference number samples IMF conditions between local seasons hemispheres. Currents stronger Northern Hemisphere (NH) than Southern (SH) for B NH (B SH) most under both signs B. For SH), currents small except winter when SH. During largest occurs autumn, NH/SH ratio aligned current (FAC) 1.18 0.09 1.17 autumn. observed autumn with 1.16 0.07 FAC. also find an explicit effect given hemisphere: average SH causes larger vice versa. The divergence-free during very good agreement cross polar cap potential Super Dual Auroral Radar Network dynamic model at equinox summer.
